In accordance with the policies adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the contact info a domain is registered with must be valid and up to date all the time. Furthermore, this info is publicly accessible on WHOIS lookup websites and while this may be okay for corporations, it may not be very acceptable for individuals, since anyone can see their names and their personal email and street addresses, especially in an age when identity fraud isn’t that unusual. Because of this, domain registrars have launched a service that hides the details of their customers without altering them. The service is referred to as ID Protection, Privacy Protection or WHOIS Protection. In case it is active, people will view the details of the registrar company, not the domain owner’s, if they make a WHOIS enquiry. The ID Protection service is supported by all generic TLD extensions, but it’s still not possible to conceal your information with some country-code ones.

ID Protection in Cloud Hosting

If you get a cloud hosting package from our company, you will be able to enable ID Protection for any of your domains as long as their extensions support the service. You can register or transfer a domain and enable ID Protection upon registration or you can enable the service for any of your domain names at any time later through the Hepsia Control Panel. The process is incredibly easy – once you sign in, you’ll have to go to the Registered Domains section where you will see a list of all the domains that you have registered through us. For each one of them you’ll notice an “ID Protect” button, which will show you whether the service is active or not. By clicking on it, you can either ID-protect the domain name, or you can disable the service if it is currently active.

ID Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

In case you have a semi-dedicated server account with us and you register a domain under it, you can activate our ID Protection service without difficulty. This takes only a couple of clicks of the mouse in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, via which you manage everything associated with your semi-dedicated hosting account. This is the place where you can see all your domains and for each of them you will find an “ID Protect” button, using which you can enable, renew or disable the ID Protection service. Of course, this can be done only with gTLD and ccTLD extensions that support this option and you’ll be able to see this in advance, so you will not end up paying for a service that we cannot provide.
